Full Strength Rock 2008
In '08'Full Strength Rock returns to blow your socks off with its tasteful blend of melodic beats and beating melodies.
It is a celebration of the music that Newcastle was built on .... ROCK!
Full Strength Rock showcases our finest acts in their most natural habitats.
As is the case every year, the 'Full Strength BBQ' is back to feed the hungry and malnourished rockers, and our fantastic giveaways means you may not leave the venue with just a thirst for more guitar solos.
Recent winners of Tooheys UncharTED, Here Come the Birds formed as a five piece in 2005. Equally influenced by the likes of At the Drive In, Brand New, Pink Floyd, Die! Die! Die! and Muse, they set out to create a band that harnesses these influences whilst sounding nothing alike.
Here Come the Birds have graced the stage in major venues as a headline act, along with supporting bands such as Birds of Tokyo and Regular John.
Here Come the Birds recently joined Splendour In the Grass 2008 playing alongside acts including Devo, Wolfmother, Cold War Kids and The Living End.
As each show progressed, their urgent and energetic stage performance was highlighted, occasionally leading to broken teeth, guitars and amps.
As cool as an indie art film only they have heard of, with the strength of a summertime blockbuster, almost like "Top Gun" but more like "Mad Max".

After moving down to Melbourne at the beginning of the year, Newcastle Bred Alterno-Rockers Cotton Sidewalk are coming back for a special one-off show at Full Strength Rock. They bring to the stage their own brand of Indie Rock featuring some sweet beats, mesmerizing Melodies, innovative arrangements and Oestrogen-fuelled harmonies.
Although only together for seven years, Cotton Sidewalk has blessed the world with two tasty releases; An LP entitled "Mass Transit Radio", and an EP named "Build a Preschool". Both of which have received airplay on Triple J, FBI Radio, and raised many an eyebrow.
Now living in Melbourne, Cotton are focusing on playing as much as possible and are putting the finishing touches on their life's works, a full length album which is yet to be titled.
Over the years, Cotton has achieved many milestones from winning band comps, winning an ABC music award, securing a distribution deal, and have supported the likes of Evermore, Butterfingers, The Superjesus, Betchadupa, Dappled Cities Fly and Machine Gun Fellatio to name a few.
With a loyal following of supporters in Newcastle and Melbourne, and an exciting new album that promises to blow expectations out of the water, Cotton Sidewalk are truly a band to keep your eye out for this year, and a must see at Full Strength Rock.

The Nickson Wing (who took their name after a section of the Royal Newcastle Hospital) have been described as a 'mix between Crowded House and Oasis' with a live show that leaves nothing to the imagination.
Their music is a bona fide fresh blend of indie/pop rock 'n' roll. "We all love '60's rock 'n' roll," says Drew , who names The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks and Bob Dylan and. more recently, Oasis, Coldplay and The Kings of Leon among their chief inspirations.
The bands confident, heady style has gained them healthy respect from punters and an ever growing live following, which revels in their boundless energy and engaging gigs. They love the fact that they have an audience to entertain and respect that support and attention with great passion. "To walk on stage and look upon a curious crowd beside three guys you love playing music with is what it's all about" says Todd.
The band has supported such acts as Alex Lloyd, KissChasey, Peabody, Airbourne and Mental as Anything and have played at such acclaimed venues as Newcastles Civic Theatre and Sydney's Annandale and Hopetoun Hotels.
